Scratch was to be a collection of my previous essays on technology, culture, and design. It was abandoned late last year, but may come back in a different form in the future.
How should a cover look if the book will be sold exclusively online? Perhaps more like a logo.
The cover no longer needs to be an advertisement. Many of the supplemental bits— testimonials, summaries, and even the title—are externalized to the website.
The remaining challenge is to represent the book in a visually memorable fashion. The problem is very similar to a logo.
