Hiatus brings a fresh approach to post production, demonstrating its name by stepping back, taking a pause, and re-evaluating industry norms. The brand is grounded in fresh air and a scenic view, inspired by where the idea for the business first occurred: on the side of a mountain in New Zealand.
Negative space is a key component of Hiatus’s visual language. It’s expressed symbolically in the company’s logo (a modified pause symbol), but also extends to layout. The logo is placed in an over-sized middle gutter on the site, creating a break in the middle of everything—a literal hiatus. With the site’s contents pushed to the side, the layout also mimics two images on a strip of film and the gap between them. Hiatus lives at the location of editing work: between two images, where the cut happens.
